The polarographic reduction of erythrosin, the disodium salt of 2',4',5',7'-tetraiodofluorescein, was examined at pH 4.7. Three reduction steps were found. The first step involves two electrons and the reduction of the quinone group as in fluorescein. The second step results from the removal of the

✦ Synopsis
A kinetic study is carried out of the Ga'+ + 3e +Ga electrode reaction in relation to the existing ionic species in the media used: LiClO&, NaCI, KBr, NaNOa, N&O, and NH,OH. It is found that the predominant species in equilibrium at the electrode have a coordination index of 6 ligands for the SO;, the Cl-and NO; ions, 5 for Br-and 4 for NH,. It is also noted that Ga"' does not form complex compounds with ClO; ions. The specific rate constant of electrode reaction in the equilibrium potential, k, calculated by Koutecky's method, is in all cases between 2.10-> and 1 .lOm" cm se', and the transfer coefficient, a, is about 0.15.
By microcoulometric methods it is confirmed that the number of electrons in the electron transfer is three.
A study is also made of the interaction of the Ga" reduction wave, which in a 0.1 M LiCIO, medium presents a half wave potential (E,,,) of -1,270V with reference to see, with the H' wave. It is concluded that the optimum pH of study is between 2.7 and 3.1. The ionic intensity of the medium is also taken into account.

m-Nitrophenol is adsorbed at the dme, and lowers the double-layer capacitance, at potentials more positive than its reduction potential. At that potential, a differential-capacitance peak appears that is partly faradaic in origin and partly due to the "desorption" (through reduction) of the m-nitrop
