Abstract
Micrometeorological fluxβgradient relations have been used to deduce average evaporation rates for most hours of the Wangara experiment, using net radiation and ground heat transfer values. At night, dewfall is found to have been a common occurrence, at rates that averaged about 0Β·015mmh^β1^ and sometimes approached (but never exceeded) the value of about 0Β·07mmh^β1^ that has been proposed as a natural limit. The average nocturnal dewfall was about 0Β·22 mm. During the 44 days of the experiment, about 20mm of rain fell at the central site, augmented by about 9mm of dewfall. Evaporation amounted to about 26mm of water.
