We prove a version of the maximum principle for linear parabolic distributed parameter systems that avoids some of the usual smoothness assumptions on the target.

In the study of optimal chemical processes it is necessary to take proper account of the discrete nature and complex structural topology of many elements of the plant. The solution of nonlinear variational equations may be used to prove the strong maximum principle of PONTRYAGIN for continuous syste
In this work we present a comparison result for two solutions of the Laplace equation in a smooth bounded domain, satisfying the same mixed boundary condition (zero Dirichlet data on part of the boundary and zero Neumann data on the rest). The result is in some sense a generalization of the Hopf lem
