✦ Synopsis

A model is proposed which predicts that ~he relationship between size and abundance of organisms is logarithmic when certain conditions are met, the most important among these being that the organisms are limited by a single resource. The model is presented in both a deterministic and stochastic form. Examples from experimental and field situations are given, and the model is discussed as to its general relevance and applicability.
