β¦ Synopsis
A simple probabilistic model is proposed f o r the collision and d erailment experience for freight t r a i n s of U.S. Class I railways. By means of this model, asymptotic confidence intervals are constructed f o r the probability p e r mile of a derailment accident as a function of t r a i n speed and t r a i n length which utilize data available f r o m r e c o r d s f o r U.S. Class I railways kept by the Interstate Commerce Commission and the Association of American Railroads [ l ] . Allowance is made i n the model f o r the grouping of data by t r a i n length and speed.

## Abstract Genomeβwide genetic association studies typically start with univariate statistical tests of each marker. In principle, this singleβSNP scanning is statistically straightforwardβthe testing is done with standard methods (e.g. Ο^2^ tests, regression) that have been well studied for decad
