Abstract
A lossy electric power system including normal and limited energy supply thermal units and hydraulic units are considered in this paper. The total thermal cost for an operation period of the system is minimized under some possible electric, hydraulic, and fuel constraints. The minimization of the total thermal cost is achieved by determining active generations of all units in all subintervals by means of a spot price of electricity algorithm proposed by our research group. Application of the algorithm is demonstrated on a lossy electric power system that contains 16 buses, three normal thermal, two limited energy supply thermal and 4 hydraulic units (coupled). Obtained results are discussed in the example section of the paper. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
