Abstract

A combined investigation is made of MΓΌssbauer effect and neutron diffraction on powdered samples of FeSn in the temperature range between 4.2 and 400 Β°K. A spin‐flip effect is found at about 70 Β°K. Two non‐collinear models of spin ordering are proposed, one above and one below the transition temperature. The magnetic unit cell with a Γ— 2 a Γ—Γ— 2 c is found at both sides of this transition. It is concluded that the main spin direction at T < 70 Β°K is along [100] and at 70 Β°K β‰ͺ T < T~N~ along [210]. The atomic magnetic moment of Fe is obtained to (1.78 Β± 0.06) ΞΌ~B~ at liquid helium temperature.
