Abstract
Specimens of the lumbriculid genus Styloscolex MICHAELSEN have been found in northern Alaska. They were identified as St. opisthothecus SOKOLSKAJA 1969, known from Kamchatka. A description of the Alaskan specimens and habitats is given. The genus Styloscolex once supposed to be a Baikalian endemic has representatives also in Manchukuo and Japan. It is pointed to the fact that bottom‐living organisms of lakes of vast areas are rather unknown. Only Lake Baikal, famous for its size and depth, has attracted special interest and been thoroughly investigated. The genus Styloscolex may thus be found in more areas. In any case, the present finds show that it is not restricted to eastern Asia.
