โฆ Synopsis
They were asked to select two articles for each trace element, one which impacted greatly on human health and the other on the basic aspects. Several committee members also contributed commentaries on the landmark articles, which were included in this publication. In the case of iodine, only one landmark article, which impacted greatly on basic aspects, was selected. It was difficult to select one single article on iodine, which impacted mostly on human health, in as much as innumerable contributions have appeared during the past century. We are also including in this issue one "special article" entitled "Essentiality and Toxicity of Trace Elements: Principles and Methods for Assessment of Risk From Human Exposure to Essential Trace Elements" in view of the fact that this general article provides a basis for the acceptable range of dietary intake of essential trace elements without causing toxicity. We wish to thank the contributors whole heartedly for their efforts. We sincerely hope that this issue will be very useful to scientists and physicians who are involved in this field. It's always good to know how things got started.
