โœฆ Synopsis

A smoothness/shock indicator is proposed for the RKDG methods solving nonlinear conservation laws. A few numerical experiments are presented as evidence that the indicator helps in detecting shocks, high order discontinuities, regions of smooth solutions, and numerical ''instability''.

The formation of shock waves in solutions of hyperbolic conservation laws calls for locally adaptive numerical solution algorithms and requires a practical tool for identifying where adaption is needed. In this paper, a new smoothness indicator (SI) is used to identify "rough" solution regions and i

We present a new smoothing Newton method for nonlinear complementarity problems (NCP(F)) by using an NCP function to reformulate the problem to its equivalent form. Compared with most current smoothing methods, our method contains an estimating technique based on the active-set strategy. This techni

The smoothed particle hydrodynamics method is applied to an ADM 3 + 1 formulation of the equations for relativistic fluid flow. In particular the one-dimensional shock tube is addressed. Three codes are described. The first is a straightforward extension of classic SPH, while the other two are modif

A mathematical function has been developed for approximating unimodal functions, particularly those which are non-Gaussian, skewed. and incomplete. It is useful as an alternative to cubic splines in smoothing noisy experimental data. Particular applications are to indicator-dilution curves and proba
