โฆ Synopsis
A model IS presented for heat transfer from an immersed cylmder wlthm a packed bed of particles to gas flowmg through the bed parallel to the cylmder's axis Slmphticatlons m the model permit a closed form solution which agrees closely wth the results of a previous numerical solution [ I] when slmdar correlations for the physical mechamsms are employed The results are shown to be sensltlve to the values of the beat transfer coefficient at the cyhnder wall and the gas velocity close to the wall

If transient heat transfer occurs in a packed bed or a reaction is carried out on the pellets, the heterogeneity of the bed is essential because of the heat flow between pellets and gas. Global heat parameters for the packed bed, such ss d,,, and a,,,, are usually derived from homogeneous models. Th
