β¦ Synopsis
Animals and food (leaves) are confined at a desired temperature in a feeding chamber in the upper portion of the water column of a collector system. Egested material collects in water at oΒ°C where microbial alteration of the faeces is minimal. The design also eliminates coprophagy and physical damage to the pellets. pellets because of handling or by animals, coprophagy, alterations because of microbial activity or leaching of soluble substances. La Rosa (1976) have suggested techniques which are simple but do not control microbial colonization. The present note suggests a collector which overcomes most of the above shortcomings.
