โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

The synthesis of Lโ€[^35^S]cysteine sulfinic acid (Lโ€2โ€aminoโ€3โ€[^35^S] sulfinoโ€propanoic acid) in 65% yield from Sโ€[^35^S]cystine is described. The procedure was designed for use with milligram quantities of starting material and requires no purification of intermediates. Lโ€[^35^S]Cystine was converted first to its thiosulfonate. Subsequent reaction of the thiosulfonate with ammonium hydroxide generated Lโ€[^35^S]cysteine sulfinic acid and Lโ€[^35^S]cystine as the major products. The Lโ€[^35^S]cystine was recovered and reprocessed thereby increasing the yield.

A procedure for the simultaneous preparation of S-sulfo-L-cysteine and L-alanine 3-sulfinic acid is described. The method is based on the quantitative reaction between sulfite and S-(2amino-2-carboxyethylsulfonyl~L-cysteine. The yield was 95% for S-sulfo-Lcysteine and 9 1% for L-alanine 3-sullinic
