✦ Synopsis


shifted UV/VIS spectrum of the chromophore of 5,15-bisnorcobester 2131 was observed. The reaction is only reproducible in the presence of small amounts of CCl,. Under optimized conditions (Scheme 1) the didemethylation proceeds almost quantitatively (UV/VIS spectroscopy). The crystalline product (56%) had identical UV/VIS, CD, IR, 'H-and I3C-NMR, as well as mass spectra (fast-atom bombardement technique) as a sample of a (1 : 1) crystallizate of 13a-and 13P-5,15-bisnorcobester 2 (spectra shown inL3]) obtained earlier in this laboratory by total synthesis[3a,b1 & -N , N' -N N--N N-3 4 5
