โœฆ Synopsis

A brief route for preparation of the L-hexenulose 4 from D-glucal 1 via furan intermediates 2 and 3 is described.

We have developed a simple and conceptually novel route to C-hexoses. The procedure is notably brief and overcomes many of the limitations of other methods.

Until recently, synthetic interest in L-sugars was largely based on their occur-

The reaction of allyltrimethylsilane with CC, pdialkoxyaldehydes is catalyzed by magnesium bromide, and provides for a highly stereoselective allylation which is predicted by a-chelation of the Lewis acid. The observed stereocontrol is opposite to that generally obtained from a variety of common al
