✦ Synopsis

Abstract

This paper reports a simple printed dipole antenna which exhibits dual‐band operations. The antenna's radiation pattern is bidirectional in the xy plane and close‐to‐omnidirectional in the xz plane. The 10 dB impedance bandwidths achieved are 38.6% and 4.7% centered at 1.1 and 2.3 GHz, respectively. The impedance and radiation characteristics of the proposed antenna, as studied by both simulation and experiment, are satisfactory. The antenna's performance compares well with that of a recently proposed dipole antenna with fractal shape. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
