β¦ Synopsis
Aquatic
plants have become a problem in many freshwater bodies. Several control techniques are available, but mechanical methods (eg. harvesting) have advantages in some circumstances. Since the effectiveness of mechanical methods has been variable, a model has been formulated to investigate the impact on the plants of several harvesting regimes. The model reproduces the observed dynamics of unperturbed growth very well, and shows reasonable dynamics for harvested plants. Results from the model suggest that July is the optimum time to harvest, but that harvesting cannot be viewed as more than a temporary relief to the plant problem.
