✦ Synopsis
Some results of recent investigations concerning the development of feasible computational techniques for modeling the timecurrent characteristics of commercial and industrial power-system protective devices (in particular, the molded-case circuit breaker) are presented. The unique problems encoun-.tered in developing a feasible mathematical model for the trip characteristics of the thermomechanical breaker are addressed, and extensions to other, more easily modeled, protective devices are discussed. An associated algorithm for curve-fitting, indexing, and storing the resulting time-current data is described. The techniques applied therein should prove especially attractive to small utilities and consulting firms with minicomputer or time-sharing capability which are planning the development of a computeraided protective-device coordination package.
