✦ Synopsis

Diagrams have been constructed using data from Campbell-Stokes sunshine records to show diurna I patterns of"cloudiness" (i.e., dull periods) in a continuous fashion throughout the year. Examples from East Africa illustrate very marked differences in the patterns experienced at different localities. A general lack of increase in cloudiness during rainy months is usual, and early morning or evening cloud, or both, often occur in groups of successive days.

Apart from their value in interpreting trends in other meteorological factors, or for aerial survey work, these diagrams are likely to be useful aids to biologists interested in such fields of study as, for example, transpiration, photosynthesis, the effects of weather on pests and diseases, or the behaviour of animals.
