## Abstract The precision and accuracy of the Kerley and AhlqvistβDamsten microscopic methods of age determination are compared. Both methods were applied to the same sample of 40 femoral thin sections of documented age at death. The results indicate that (1) both methods can be used with equal pre

β¦ Synopsis
The potential of using di!erences in log crude mortality rates, matched age for age, as a simple means of comparing two mortality studies is investigated. Graphical displays of such di!erences, plotted against age, are advocated and a method of curve "tting described. A number of applications are presented, and the results of this approach compared with known results, where available.
