โฆ Synopsis
A sensitive enzymatic method employing L-fucose dehydrogenase has been used for the measurement of the amounts of fucose in 100-500 pg of plasma membrane protein and lo-100 pg of porcine submaxillary mucin. The assay showed linearity between 0 and 20 nmol of Lu-L-fucose when measuring NADH fluorescence. The fucose values obtained for the plasma membrane and submaxillary mucin correspond well with those obtained by gas-liquid chromatography.

A highly sensitive method for assaying glyoxylate is based on the Rimini-Schryver react, ion. This involves the formation of glyoxylate phenylhydrazone and its subsequent oxidation, in strongly acid medium, to the intensely red 1,5-diphenylformazan, absorbing at, 520 nm. Ethylene glycol is oxidised to formaldehyde by periodate. The formaldehyde is quantitatively converted into a purple coloured compound by chromotropic acid. The colour is measured in a spectrophotometer at 550 nm using standard ethylene glycol in the range of l-10 pg. Chromotropic acid (4,5-dihydro
