observed a surprising reaction involving uncatalyzed hydrogen transfer from these amines containing a-hydrogen atoms to the aromatic nitrile group with formation of two imine groups. Besides ( I ) , it is so far known that 5-nitroanthranilonitrile (2-amino-5-nitrobenzonitrile) and its N,Ndibenzoyl derivative undergo this reaction.
