✦ Synopsis

Necessary and sufficient conditions for the strong ellipticity of isotropic hyperelastic materials were first given by Knowles and Sternberg [3,4] by means of a lengthy calculation. Since then Aubert and Tahraoui [1] have shown the necessity of these conditions and simplified one of them using a different but still complicated method. The purpose of this note is to show how the conditions can be derived in a very simple way.
