✦ Synopsis

by a movable quarter-wave dielectric insert in the waveguide.

The resonator described was used to observe cyclotron resonance. The semiconductor specimen is put in with the help of the holder-light pipe 3 through a 2 mm diameter hole in the end (see Figure 1) and is placed in the antinode of the electric field.

Experiments showed that at T = 4-2Β°K the Q of the resonator is N2 x I0 ~. The magnetic field did not change this or detune the resonator. The field was measured with a bismuth probe, mounted in a textolite part of the resonator piston. The high mechanical reliability of the system was shown by many successive experiments.

The authors thank A. B. Fradkov for valuable advice and A. P. Kuzyaev for help in making the resonatorsolenoid.

We have developed a burst disc that can be used with superfluid helium and whose bursting pressure can be easily and accurately adjusted. It is both low cost and simple to construct. The burst pressure can be set with an accuracy of better than 1.7 kPa with a minimum burst pressure of 11 kPa.
