✦ Synopsis

Based on the experimental data, a definite mechanism for the oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols with PCC and two newly synthesized Cr(V1) reagents has been proposed. The reaction has been shown to be a series reaction rather than a simple one step reaction as reported in the literature. The mechanism proposed has been exemplified by taking 2-pentanol as an example. The kinetic isotope studies have also been performed.
