Iampleasedtoannouncethatthisissue of the

European Journal of Immunology (EJI) features a series of viewpoints dedicated to Rolf Zinkernagel in celebration of his contribution to immunology in general and to EJI in particular -Rolf served with distinction as the Chairman of the Executive Committee of EJI from 2000 until the end of 2007.

Rolf is well known, and often appreciated, for his heterodox views in immunology [1, 2], including those pertaining to "Suppressor/Regulatory T cells (Treg)". Such cells are the focus of this viewpoint series, a series of articles which are meant to be provocative rather than a comprehensive coverage of all aspects of Treg cells. The series is expertly introduced by Shimon Sakaguchi, who recently reviewed the history of the Treg story for us [2]. I would also like to acknowledge the work of Elisabeth Suri-Payer, a member of the Editorial Board of EJI, who actively contributed to the concept of this project through fruitful discussions with the editorial team.
