β¦ Synopsis
A semiclassical model, based on the Vlasov equation, for the approximate calculation of capture and ionization processes in ion-atom collisions is described. The model relies on the impact parameter approximation and involves the calculation of the time-dependent single-electron distribution function in phase space at the level of h = 0. This is achieved through a test-particle discreti.zation. Emphasis in this paper is on a study of the electron emission spectra in highly energetic p-He collisions as well as the influence of the electronic motion on the deflection of the projectiles.

A program is presented which calculates total and differential cross-sections for the ionisation of hydrogen-like targets by the impact of fully stripped ions. Any one of four theoretical descriptions can be used, namely. (i) the first Born approximation, (ii) the distorted wave born approximation,
