✦ Synopsis


We report on searches for the pentaquark candidates Θ + (1540) and Φ(1860) in Σ -nucleus collisions at 340 GeV/c (WA89) and in quasi-real photo-production in ¡-6 LiD collisions at 160 GeV/c (COMPASS). No evidence for these candidates was found.

In Ξ£ --nucleus collisions, the production cross section integrated over the range 0.15 < x F < 0.9 is Οƒ < 16 Β΅b/nucleon (95% CL) for the Θ + (1540) and Οƒ β€’ BR < 2.3 Β΅b/nucleon (95% CL) for the Ξ¦(1860).

In ¡-6 LiD collisions, the ratio of Φ(1860) to Ξ -production is < 0.005 (99% CL). * Supported by DFG.
