✦ Synopsis

Dissociative electron attachment to alkyl halides is employed to search for stable hydrogen halide anions. Anions previously ascribed to HCIfrom 2-chloropropane are here shown to be C; on the basis of accurate mass determinations. Long-lived HIions are observed from iodomethane, but HBr-is not detected at the part-permillion level from 2-bromopropane.
