Ever since Roshko's (1954) first calibrations of the shedding frequency of a circular cylinder in a uniform flow at low Reynolds numbers numerous experiments have been conducted in an attempt to improve our understanding of such flows. Roshko's data for the variation of the non-dimensionalized shedding frequency, Ro, where Ro =fd2/v with f the frequency, d the cylinder diameter and v the kinematic viscosity, offered the following dependence on Reynolds number, Re, based on d: Ro = 0.212 Re -4.5 50 < Re < 150.
