✦ Synopsis
The primary purpose of the investigation conducted by the authors was to provide designers with some basis to estimate dynamic creep from static creep information.
The authors do not disagree with the discussors' definitions of cyclic creep and fatigue as portrayed in their Ref. I. From the work conducted at Carleton University, however, conclusion 1 of the paper remains valid whether the deformation under dynamic load is defined as cyclic creep or fatigue.
From references 6 and 7 of this paper, the secant modulus for the specimens under dynamic loading at 1500 cpm and fmax/f~ ~ 0.5, generally decreased during the test period to fmax and fmin levels. This reduction in secant modu. lus appears dependent upon the magnitude of fmin/fmax ratio, a smaller ratio under dynamic load producing a correspondingly larger reduction of secant modu. lus of elasticity.
The authors agree that available appropriate literature should be considered. Work for this paper was completed in 1973 but publication was unfortunately delayed. CCR 5, 565 (1975).
