✦ Synopsis
In his stimulating discussion (1) of our paper, (2) Dr. Skalny claims that some disagreement exists between our data and those obtained by himself (3)(4)(5) and by other authors. (6'7) We will try to demonstrate that, taking into account the analytical methods available, the results are in good agreement, whereas their interpretation is different.
Three points will be discussed in particular: I) the kinetics of hydration, 2) the surface properties, and 3) the composition of the hydrated products.

The authors are very grateful to Chatterji as his remarks provide a welcome opportunity to clarify some points of our paper. According to Chatterji's, in the C3A-gyps~m-water system, we would have attributed "the first part of the second high activity period to ettringite formation." Moreover, Chat
