✦ Synopsis
The authors feel that the sample geometry and notch depth selected were adequate for the experimental purposes, The sample geometry is consistent with that of other work on ceramic materials, glasses, graphites, and rigid polymers (2,3,4) and is consistent with the analysis of Gross and Srawley (5). Failure in all cases was Brittle and no slow crack growth was observed.
