✦ Synopsis

A relatively fast method for determining the initial rate of polymerization from the maximum of isothermal thermograms ("Vp. max method") is described. The method was verified for the polymerization of methyl methacrylate in dimethylformamide. The initial rates and overall rate constants agree excellently with those obtained by conventional evaluation of thermograms. Overall activation parameters compare well with literature values.
