β¦ Synopsis
printed value d 5.85 should have read 6.85. Therefore the 1 H NMR values of CO : CH : CH are d 6.32 and 6.85, respectively, which are in agreement with the values reported by other authors. Further, according to our interpretation the trans-hydroxy davanone diers in the stereochemistry at C-7. However, the confusion in assigning the signal for CO was due to poor resolution of the compound in small quantity on a 20 MHz 13 C NMR spectrometer.

Although I have always disagreed with a simplistic cost/benefit analysis to a problem with both economic and social components, Hoffer and Pratt's analysis presents more obvious flaws from a technical perspective.
