The electron impact mass spectra of the acetates of zinc, magnesium, cobalt and manganese have been investigated using a direct inlet probe. Volatile tetrahedral complexes are produced on heating, and ions of the form [~(OC0CH3),O]" (M = CO and Mu) and [N4(OCOCH3),0]+ (N = Zn or Mg) are observed. A

The spectra of the title compounds have been recorded and interpreted. On this basis, the structures of the anhydrous compounds Be(OOCH)\*, Be(OOCMe),, Zn(OOCMe), are predicted to have tetrahedral coordination with the carboxylate ions acting as bidentate ligands.
