โฆ Synopsis
T h : am7noniacal e\traction of bloodstains has been adapted to a microscoljic technique. By elinzinating unnecessary time-consuming steps, a rapid method of grouping ABO stains by absorfition elution i s presented. T h e technique rivals the Lattes slide technique in simplicity and time.
The absorption-elution technique for grouping of bloodstains is used almost universally. Even though the procedure is more sensitive, reliable and less sensitive to interferences than the absorption-inhibition technique, it is a timeconsuming process. Some time can be saved and a standardized procedure established by using cellulose acetate shcets as dcscribed by .
Recently, Kind and Clecvely ( ) described an extraction method using an ammoniacal solution. It is postulated that the absorption takes place at the solid/liquid interface. In other words, the processes involved are surface phenomena. The experimental data presented in that article confirms this postulation.
Reactions taking place on the surface of a film should be fairly rapid. With this view in mind experiments were carried out to try to develop a rapid, standardized procedure for grouping dried bloodstains.
