✦ Synopsis

This study was designed to study the time course of the incorporation of 55Fe into the ameloblasts of maturation in rat incisors. Male Sherman rats (100 k 5 gm) were injected intravenously with 0.9 mCi of 55Fe and sacrificed in pairs by perfusion at various time intervals from 5 min to 7 'The grains were counted at x 1,000 magnification using an ocular grid scored in 10 x 10-pm squares. The grains were counted in successive rectangles measuring 50 x 10 {rm until the entire height of the cells was examined. Four counts were made on each of two serial sections from each segment along the zone of maturation a t all the time intervals after injection. The values were plotted in Figure as the mean number of grains per 10,000 @m2 against the distance in mm from the start of the zone of maturation.
