The present technique for measuring the airborne sound insulation of wails and floors, involving measurements in 16 one-third octave bands, is tedious and expensive. The method provides more information than is needed for most purposes, and is more suited to research. Several investigators have pro

โฆ Synopsis
A BS TRA C T A time selective free-field technique is applied to simpl(]'y the nwasurement ~[" transmission loss for lightweight partitions. It is shown how a combination 0[" dual channel spectrum and cepstrum anaO,ses based on FFT techniques permits one to measure the local sound insulation at normal incidence.
Cepstral processing allows the accurate extraction of the ,~vstem's impulse response, buried in reverberant noise. The final frequenct' resolution o[ the method depends on the size of the test speeimen and eepstral window. Good agreenwnt is obtained between theoretical and measured transmission loss/or single and double partitions.

The paper is a general introduction #~to possible ways in which the sound insulation of facades could be measured. Examined are direction of measurement, noise source, sound pressure levels measurements and calculation of sound insulation.
A mathematical model is developed estimating sound power \(P\) by use of the scanning method. The scanning is assumed to be slow and for the purposes of the analysis, only simple paths are used. The paper shows that scanning along such paths can be very accurate. The paper discusses the existence of
