The dependency of the fecundity of Daphnia spec. on the food concentration was studied in Lake Constance. To eliminate the influence of temperature the number of eggs per adult female was plotted against the concentration of particulate carbon (<50 μm) at the estimated time of the production of the

The ¯uorescence of pyrenyl labelled polystyrene has been investigated. The ratio of excimer to monomer intensities (I e /I m ) is found to vary tortuously with increasing concentration (C) and displays two critical concentration points, C at about 3.2 Â 10 À2 g ml À1 and C m at about 0.32 g ml À1 .
