β¦ Synopsis
A simple model for describing residence time distributions (RTD) in packed beds is derived and applied to a trickle flow system. It is based on the concept of fluid elements being randomly delayed in time on their passage through the bed and leads to a simple and flexible rnathematical description.

The time-varying fluid mechanics of the pulse flow regime are studied by the use of continuous pressure measurements. It is found that pulses can occur either regularly or intermittently and the time period between pulses scales inversely with a modified Reynolds number. A simple physical basis for
## Abstract The characterization of the flow inside a packed bed requires a full description of the pore geometrical characteristics, and of the flow phenomena at local level. A twoβdimensional (2βD) network model for describing the flow phenomena in unconsolidatedβpacked beds has been developed. T
