โฆ Synopsis
Ah&act-Micro-Raman spectra of crystalline pentacarbonyl(chloro)rhenium(I), Re(CO)&l, have been recorded at various external pressures up to approximately 60 kbar. The slopes of the pressure dependences for some of the fundamentals exhibit distinct discontinuities at about 29 kbar suggesting the existence of a phase transition at this pressure. The n-backbonding between the rhenium and the CO groups in the low-pressure phase is noticeably strengthened with increasing pressure. The behavior of the CO stretching modes upon application of high external pressures indicates that the strong intermolecular vibrational coupling at ambient conditions is weakened by increasing pressure.
