β¦ Synopsis
A predictive model of reaction-assisted attrition of carbon in a fluidized bed has been developed. It embodies a constitutive relationship between the rate of regression of particle external surface and the local degree of carbon conversion. Compared to a previous descriptive model (Salatino and Massimilla, 1985, Chem. Engng Sci., 40, 1905), this considers that such a relationship can be separately determined from experiments of purely mechanical attrition of carbon pre&onverted under kinetic control. Model capabilities have been explored on the basis of results of an experimental study directed to characterize attrition behavior of a graphite in fluidized bed combustion and in gasification with COP.

A model of coal combustion dynamics in a fluidized bed is developed in this study. The model is carried out on the premise that the total combustion response can be decomposed into two distinct processes: volatile combustion and char combustion. In this investigation, combustion dynamics are examine
