ACCURATE

MEASUREMENTS of thermophysical properties of substances and also cahbration for precision thermometry require high stability in temperature control at any point in the range from 4 2 up to 300 K We describe below a temperature regulator for this range which has been tested over a long period in cryostats of various designs With this regulator the temperature drift at any point in the range from 4 2 to 30 K could be kept to not more than 3 x 10 -a K over a period of 30 mln (with a germanium thermometer sensor) and to not more than 5 × 10 -3 K in the range from 30 to 300 K over the same period (a copperconstantan thermocouple sensor) Such stablhty is in most cases sufficient for carrying out precision thermophysical measurements and cahbrations As experiment shows, one of the mam difficulties in maintaining highly stable temperatures in the range from 4 2 to 300 K is the
