Abstract
A fast and effective method for the matching of twoβ element symmetric antenna arrays is presented. The full geometry is subdivided into two halfβspace problems with the help of an evenβ and oddβmode (EOM) analysis scheme. An interpretation based on the EOM representation is made for any radiation pattern mode that is constructed by arbitrarily exciting the antenna ports. Also, a relationship between the radiation efficiency for the full geometry and the evenβ and oddβmode Sβparameters is derived. A unique technique for matching the twoβelement antenna arrays is developed by exploiting the EOM representation. Numerical examples that illustrate the effectiveness of our matching technique for different radiation pattern modes are provided.βΒ© 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
