We examine a non-linear mechanism for a solar surge in which plasma regions of high electrical conductivity and macroscopic dimension can be rapidly accelerated without diffusion of magnetic field. The mechanism is suggested by Rust's observations, which show that surges occur near sunspots in regio

An ejection mechanism for solar surges is discussed. The mechanism is closely related to an earlier proposed model for solar flares founded on current disruption. Hence, the observed connection between surges and flares may be explained in a simple way. The mechanism can also offer explanations of o
The possibility of surge formation as a result of plasma 'raking-up', the latter being associated with the growth of the local magnetic field in the solar atmosphere, is considered in this paper. The question is treated numerically in the MHD approximation for the case of the dipolar magnetic field.
About 45% non-flare surges are found to be associated with radio bursts inferred from spectral data. Associated surges are mostly accompanied by type I (24%) and type III (29%) bursts.
After re-examination of data presented by Verma (1984), some misuse of solar parameteres published in Solar Geophysical Data is presented. Consequently some conclusions made by Verma (1984Verma ( , 1986) ) on about the longitudinal distribution of cool solar surges based on these misuses are discuss
