✦ Synopsis

It is suggested that developing antibody-producing ceils synthesize new deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) which are copies of the genes concerned. Only a small proportion of the new DNA may be re-integrated into the genome for transcription purposes, but in this way a mechanism for the production of a single molecule of messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA), coding for the variable (V) and constant (C) regions of the chain of the immunoglobulin molecule becomes feasible.
