S a l k carnosa (Dougl.) is a North American plant of the Labiatae family found on the plains and slopes west of the Rocky Mountains from eastern Washington as far south as Nevada and California. It is a leafy, low, broad shrub, three-fourths to two and one-half feet 'high, bearing long spatulate or
