✦ Synopsis
A generalized physico-chemical model has been formulated to describe the kinetics of interaction between hematite and carbon particles occuring through gaseous intermediates CO, and CO. The values of the utilization factors for the three successive stages of the reduction process were determined. Specific solutions of the general model were obtained. The published experimental data was interpreted in the light of these solutions. The rate-constant was found to be given by I, = 10" exp (-34,20O/RT) g.mol.atm-'/g.of.C-sec.
The magnitude of the catalytic rate-enhancement due to the iron product was precisely defined at various temperatures.
