Abstraet--A review is given of the basic physics of the greenhouse effect and of the evidence that human activity is leading to an increase in many gases involved in the effect. The most recent predictions of global warming are discussed. The complexity of the climate system and uncertainties in the predictions are stressed, but it is concluded that global warming and measures to reduce it should be taken very seriously.
